Just off the 90 degree line of longitude and north of the Arctic Circle, formerly known as Pelly Bay, a very pleasant place, Kugaaruk, NU. The townsite is on the shore, alongside Kugaaruk River as it empties into Pelly Bay. A great place for Arctic char and for the people of this town, bowhead whales and narwhales add to the annual catch.
This is the town view on my way home from work at the Hamlet Office at 12:30 AM ! Not very dark for just past midnight.
Here on July 15th there are still some remnants of the ice that still covers the western areas of the Northwest Passage at Gjoa Haven or Cambridge Bay. But here the water is open and fisherman are gettng busy. The snowmobiles are put away and the quads are out in full force.
